How many colors/designs can I chose from?
The sky is the limit! The biggest factors are:
1) How level is the surface? Our epoxy technique relies on gravity to form and shape a lot of the design. While we also use chemical dispersement, metallics, air jets, shaping tools and heat to create the intricate shapes, Mother Nature ultimately decides on the uniqeness of each piece. It is fascinating to see the art formed right in front of your eyes!
2) Desired effect vs. color choice. We have found that less is more and the most realistic look is usually best achieved with few colors or effects. Some colors just don't react well with others. We will advise on the best combinations.
What are the clients responsibilities?
Rolling Stone Epoxy is dedicated to making the process fun and worry-free. We provide free estimates either in person or via online, depending on location and circumstances. Our process allows sinks and fixtures to stay in place. We also have state of the art moving equipment to move heavy appliances (even full refrigerators!) out of the way with no damage. One big request is to give the technicians plenty of room to work as once the epoxy is mixed there is a very short window to apply it flawlessly. The biggest request is to NOT TOUCH the surface before 24 hours. Customers find this difficult because the new surface is so amazing! Patience is a virtue...
Will my countertop scratch? Can light scratches be removed?
How long does it take to turn my old countertops into beautiful works of art?
Typically, an epoxy installation takes one or two days, depending on the size and desired finish. The area has to be meticulously prepped and masked before epoxy is applied. Proper prep and temperature is critical for the best overall durability. The surface will be dry to the touch in 24 hours, ready for light use in 48 hours, and fully cured in 30 days. We also offer topcoat finishes in matte and gloss/semi gloss that will shorten the full use waiting time and give the surface even more long term durability. Ask about our Rock-It Topcoats for more information.
In short, yes. However, our epoxies and topcoats have been chemically engineered to be extremely SCRATCH RESISTANT. Under normal, everyday use the surface is extremely hard and durable. Cutting boards are always recommended for ANY countertop surface, be it granite, marble, laminate, epoxy, etc. The surface is food safe, stain and heat resistant. Regular cleaning and care will insure many, many years of trouble free use. Light scratches can be easily buffed out with automotive waxes and compounds. Please consult our Use & Care Guide supplied with every installation for more information.
How much do our Custom Epoxy Countertops cost?
Rolling Stone Epoxy Countertops are surprisingly affordable! Our extremely durable countertops are a small fraction of the cost of granite, marble, cultured stone, or even laminate! Since we are layering over the existing surface, there is no messy construction or expensive plumbing/electric/trim work involved. We have turned 30 year-old contractor grade laminate into jaw-dropping showpieces! Small kitchens start at $1600 and bathrooms at $500. We also package price for multiple rooms/surfaces for even greater savings. Our custom quoted price includes everything, even appliance moving. And, of course, we stand behind our work 100%.
What are my surface finish options? Is a topcoat required? Is your epoxy UV stable?
Rolling Stone Epoxy cures to a very high gloss, scratch and heat resistant finish. The cured epoxy is also extremely UV stable (non-yellowing). Initial light usage is 2-3 days and full cure is around 30 days. Clients requiring or desiring another layer of protection can choose one of our Rock-It Polyaspartic Topcoats in matte or semi-gloss finish. This adds an amazing, additional layer of protection for a minimal upcharge. It also shortens the wait time for full use to just a few days. We strongly suggest Rock-It topcoat for all commercial applications.
What kind of counters can be resurfaced with Rolling Stone Epoxy?
We are able to resurface just about any smooth, non-porous level surface. Older laminate countertops? No problem. Grouted Tile? Yep. Stained, scratched marble? Absolutely! Dated, boring granite? We have you covered. Even newly constructed, unfinished MDF can be turned into a high-end appearing countertop. Let us know what you have and we will look into giving it an amazing new look. Unfortunately, we also receive many calls from folks who have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous epoxy installers. Oftentimes the epoxy has turned yellow after a short period and it is peeling or cracking. While fixing poor work or materials by these untrained people can be very difficult, we can usually repair to our high standards of quality.
Does epoxy have a strong odor? Can I stay in the home during the coating process?
We use food safe, no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) epoxy. In other words, it has a very low odor and is absolutely safe. There is a slight odor during the first 24 hours that most clients don't find objectionable. We suggest that highly sensitive individuals leave the immediate area for a few hours (great time to go to the beach!) during the epoxy laying process. There is actually more odor from the prep and water-based binding materials than the actual epoxy. We also strongly suggest that the thermostat be kept at 70 degrees for 24 hours in order for the epoxy to set up properly. Higher temperatures may cause any vertical surfaces to thin out and intricate features or veins to lighten or disappear.
